The focus trail preserves the dimension that you are exploring (known as the explore dimension) and the center node (or dimension member). The focus trail allows you to drill back up to ancestor nodes within the same dimension. If you switch explore dimensions, the focus trail is cleared and a new pinning is applied. If you focused down in the prior explore dimension (that is, you were not viewing all values), a pinning will automatically be applied. You cannot further explore the pinned dimension unless you remove the pinning by using the "Dimension Pinnings dialog" or the Revert context menu option (see "Right-Click Menu" for additional information).
The focus trail is saved (as it appears to the user at that time) when the KPI contribution wheel is saved to the catalog. When you reopen the KPI contribution wheel, the focus constraints are applied from top to bottom, and thus the focus trail members serve as a temporary constraint. In other words, the constraint is only applied via the focus trail and therefore, you can navigate (drill up or down) on the KPI contribution wheel.
Using the focus trail, you can:
Click on a circle to navigate to an ancestor focus node. Note that you might not see exactly the same information as previously viewed for that node because the state may have changed due to pinnings or prompts.
Double-click (or tap on a mobile device) to focus up to an ancestor node.
Other areas within the KPI contribution wheel diagram can also be used for navigation. You can:
Right-click on a sector (also known as a node) and:
Access the context menu for expanding and collapsing levels (or you can use the expand and collapse ring icons). Note that expanding a node expands all siblings.
Invoke an action.
Select Focus on Node to drill down.
Select Pin to Value and Explore Dimension to focus on a new dimension. You can view only one dimension at a time.
Double-click (or tap on a mobile device) to focus down within a node and make this the new center or focus node. This redraws the point-of-view and the wheel and updates the focus trail. (Note that you must click Save in edit mode to preserve this drilling.) You can focus down to a maximum of ten levels.

Note: The new focus node is only preserved in the catalog if you are in edit mode and click Save. |
Expand or collapse the outer sectors one or more levels to explore the dimension. You can:
Click the expand ring hot spot to expand one more levels.
Click the collapse ring hot spot to hide the outer level if more than one ring around the center is visible.
Click the sliver hot spot to expand or collapse the sliver. Note that slivers are only visible if some of the sectors are so thin that it is difficult to click or hover on them. It is a temporary "zoom in" feature.
